On the island nation of Gael, people live a simple life. Small city-states exist, but among the gulfs of wilderness most people live in tiny villages. These villages are ever at the mercy of the unknown, and threats of nature and evil are as worrisome as a poor harvest.
Hundreds of years ago, brave warriors and mages banded together to protect small folk from the monsters that stalked their homes. Finally when a boogey, graveir, or vypper carried off a sheep, or terrorized a farm, a party of mighty warriors would appear to end the danger. They came to call themselves Beria’dan, and as tales of their deeds spread they began to collect foundlings and other unwanteds. They taught these recruits their ways, and so the Beria’dan grew.
The Beria’dan eventually began to collect tribute from those they protected, and their members became both respected and feared for their prowess. Now parties of these skilled monster hunters travel Gael, slaying beasts and tracking fiends.
